Chiropractic care for children ages 2 to 12 supports bodies that are growing fast. At this stage children are highly active: play, sports and school activity that can produce minor misalignments or musculoskeletal stress from falls, poor posture, or a heavy backpack. Addressing these early keeps the spine aligned, which supports overall health, improves mobility and prevents the complications that show up later.
Heavy backpacks and long periods of sitting produce forward head posture and rounded shoulders.
Aches in the legs, below the knees, or in the back, associated with rapid growth spurts.
Early detection and management of abnormal spinal curvature.
Minor sprains, strains and joint misalignment from physical activity.
Tension or cervicogenic headaches caused by neck tension or poor posture.
Improved posture, better mobility, and less pain from growth and from activity-related injury. Scoliosis identified early is both preventable and correctable. Care also supports nervous system function, which can improve immunity, sleep quality and focus, and helps children do well at school and in whatever they do after it. Gentle, age-appropriate adjustment keeps it safe and comfortable.
We assess spinal alignment, posture and joint mobility to identify misalignment or restriction. We evaluate gait, range of motion and muscle balance, and we account for developmental milestones and activity level. We check for signs of scoliosis, uneven shoulder or hip alignment, and tension from a heavy backpack, using gentle, non-invasive technique scaled to a young patient.
Treatment is gentle spinal adjustment to correct misalignment, improve joint function and relieve pain. Technique in this age range is significantly adapted and lower force, scaled to the child's size, age and condition.
Our grandparents were right: habits, posture and movement are critical to the health of a body. At this age the goal is to instill the good postural and movement habits while they are still being formed.
We may add exercises to improve posture or strengthen muscle, along with guidance for parents on ergonomics, including how to use a backpack properly.
Modal therapies that suit this age group include heat therapy to relax tight muscle and cold therapy to reduce inflammation from a minor injury. Low-level laser therapy may be used to promote tissue healing in sprains and strains. These are applied gently and are safe and effective for young patients, alongside the adjustment.
Every step is explained, to you and to them. Nobody gets surprised by anything.
