Mini-Miracles
In the first chapter of the Mini-Miracle series we discussed a new term Mini-Miracle and gave it a definition: “A positive beneficial event, a healing of the bodymind, highly unlikely to occur by non-divine influence, which after some change occurs anyway.”
We support the existence of this with sound and well-reasoned Chiropractic philosophy along with common understandings from modern medical sciences. Chiropractic philosophy defines and builds an understanding that a Universal Intelligence exists and connects this to every individual body-mind’s innate intelligence. Through the processes of thot’s trauma’s and toxins barriers to the forces of innate intelligence get established within the bodymind. Finally, when we actively look for in the patient, discover and remove these barriers to the forces of innate intelligence then mini-miracles can and do happen.
As Doctor’s when we find a patient with a problem inconsistent with the patients natural state and age and we fail to find and remove the right set of barriers, it is a limitation of Doctor not a limitation of matter. Discovery of the barriers that prevent the bodyminds ability to heal is the cause of that disease.
We concluded with one example that happened directly to me. My body changed from a state of poor prognosis of intractable severe stress fractures in the right leg to zero evidence of condition within a period of 18 months. As I indicated in my last article there have been many more mini-miracles, and I have been lucky to be a Chiropractor so that I can bear witness to them. Next I will be sharing five with a common pathology and cause, yet most Doctor’s today label this condition idiopathic and leave it untreated in patients for decades.
Four male and one female patients, ages spanned 35 to 48, reported to an all-Veteran’s health care clinic that I worked in the Fall of 2023. All had multiple problems / diagnoses, but all also shared a similar condition. Each had the inability to move their weight bearing pelvis or legs too far too fast without severe pain. All had a significantly short leg and long leg. When we diagnose these with a Chiropractic lens, we assign one ilium high as AS and the other one low PI. These changes cause the hip socket, acetabulum to change position making the leg appear longer or shorter although no anatomical leg length difference is present. All also have a rotation to the pelvis giving the ilium a EX and IN listing as well. Visibly it looked like one side of the pelvis stuck out, rearward as well. Adjusting might temporarily relieve the condition. This experience was a Veteran Clinic with acupuncture, massage and therapies the patient might leave more than an hour or two later. I would see them again and observe that their Pelvis would already appear misaligned. As a Doctor asking yourself Why is the beginning of finding the cause.
Before I arrived, all had been diagnosed with and were begin treated for Severe Low Back Pain. Walking slow seemed to be manageable, no long strides, no running, no dancing, and often other bending and squatting issues. In addition to the low back more than half also reported severe sharp inguinal pain they knew would bite them and they were avoiding during any more vigorous or longer ambulatory motion.
I remembered I had a patient like this when I was in Clinic at Palmer, summer of 2023. Clinic is a Chiropractor’s form of residency. A male in his mid 20s reporting severe low back pain, accompanied by intense sharp pains when walking faster than slow. My mod doc who has seen numerous problems and injuries in his nearly 50-year career and I could not figure out the cause of his pain. We took x Rays of Low Back, pelvis and mid back, he had mild disk degeneration, mild spurring, lack of any scoliosis or other bone malady. He short we could not identify any structural reason from the x Ray that he should be in this much pain. Adjusting him and providing modalities provided some temporary back pain relief but insufficient to resolve his condition.
My mod doc, specialized in sports injuries, was a bit of a savant in the Chiropractic world when it comes to fixing the pelvis. We had many discussions on rare pelvic conditions, from sports injuries or like those painters get on ladders, and how to fix them. I had my own rare pelvic condition from martial arts. It was an Australian physiotherapist who fixed my issue. All this and we could not figure out this patient.
I asked this patient what his hobbies were, and he pulled out his phone and shared with me some Skydiving adventures. I said wow those landing must be hard. This gave me the idea to check the kinetic chains of each leg which also appeared relatively normal and healthy. That day passed and he came back only once more. We spoke about Skydiving again and I persisted that it might be something to do with the landings. That’s when he said something very important, though I did not recognize it at the time. He said to me the landing stress is not the worst, it is the stress when the shoot opens that hit’s him the hardest. He proceeded to show me a few video’s of himself from the perspective of a skydiving mate. His shoot opening and his rapid fall suddenly stopped as he appeared to zoom and jerk skyward sharply and asymmetrically. This was not strait up, it pulled up unevenly and the straps were attached to the Pelvis.
Back to the present care of 5 individuals with very similar problems, severe intractable Low Back Pain, with occasional severe inguinal pain that they could avoid by moving slowly. In my first exam and treatment I noticed all had significant pelvic listings. One ilium might be posterior and inferior the other anterior and superior. When I paid attention these bilateral differences were large, and after begin adjusted could revert back into their previous state before leaving the office. The woman had a visual condition that I can only describe as a very pronounced, high and posterior, buttock but only her left side.
I started with the woman. The Veteran’s Affairs had her status as 100% disabled with idiopathic severe intractable low back pain. I asked her how long she had been in this state she said very clearly thirteen years. Having taken a seminar on Webster a specialty that focused on women’s and pediatric health there are common condition’s in post-partum women that leads to pelvic pain, discomfort and inflammation. I ask the patient if she had Children, she said yes. I asked her how old her youngest is now. She said thirteen years.
To me that was BINGO. Giving birth loosens the Pelvis and some not all women have the pubic symphysis (PS) separate enough that when the joint resettles, it resettles out of place. The distance at the PS is out only a little but the distance the body needs to balance weight around the Pelvic rim and at both ilium is now out a lot more, due to angular rotation. The weight bearing forces now cause one ilium to rotate and rise and the other to rotate and fall.
I asked her to lay on her back and using her pressure from her knees on my hands we performed an adjustment together that would both confirm and fix an out of place pubic symphysis. A very loud pop and a very surprised patient looked down and asked what happened. She got up and walked around and indicated she was already starting to feel relief. She came back in bi-weekly for two more visits. On her next visit she said my pain is gone. I do not know what you did but I feel so much better. She then exclaimed she hardly knew why she was here. We tested her PS no movement or pops the adjustment had held.
On her next and last visit she was in tears which initially alarmed me. She said she had been out dancing for the first time since she could remember over the weekend. I was very worried things had reverted. She then gave me a huge hug, thanked me, she felt like she was much younger again. As she left I noticed the very lop sided buttock had gone away, I put that observation down for future identification of similar problems.
Now on to the four veteran men, Why do they have very similar symptoms? They did not give birth. I remembered the Skydiver I had failed to help. I remembered his words about the force of the shoot opening and my own observation that it was very strong force and not evenly distributed and two of the straps wrapped around and very near the left and right pubic bones. I asked each one what they did in the service. Every one of these four men’s primary duty was as a paratrooper. They all just woke up one day and had difficulty walking and severe low back pain. They all got diagnosed with similar idiopathic intractable severe low back pain and listed as disabled between 40 and 100%.
Well now we know this condition is not idiopathic. It has a clear cause of trauma to the Pelvis specifically the pubic symphysis joint. For the four men they were all caused by trauma to the pelvis from a shoot opening in wind with much more force on one Pubic Bone than the other.
Three of the four men’s problems were addressed in nearly the same way as the woman’s with full and complete recovery. One young man could do his martial arts again. All were extremely happy with their results.
The final male, the largest by size and weight unfortunately needed to have this adjustment about every five to ten days as the PS would revert to an out of aligned state. However, he was living a much-improved life. He let me know his wife had made me a batch of cookies. I asked why. He said that while his pelvis was disabled and for years that he could not perform and had severe pain seeking to do so. After it was adjusted he could. She was so happy she had made me cookies that he forgot to bring me, heh. What was important to me was hearing how much his life had improved. This important note added painful sex to the conditions to look out for when identifying this pathology, misaligned pelvic rim. The pubic symphysis joint is a gomphosis, it is not easily moved. However, trauma can force it to move. Once out of place it does not easily return, it often needs assistance. The body will heal even after decades.
These five people after numerous years of non-healing experienced mini-miracles in their lives ““A positive beneficial event, a healing of the bodymind, highly unlikely to occur by non-divine influence, which after some change occurs anyway.” I was lucky to be the Dr that witnessed them happen.
Low back pain may also be caused from issues in the pelvis.
Trauma to the pubic symphysis such as delivering children or another activity may create what appears to be an idiopathic and intractable Pelvic condition such as.
Diagnosing this condition is 90% history taking, even if the causal event was decades ago.
Observations include
A Webster pubic symphysis adjustment using pressure from the patient’s knees makes a very nice confirming test for and fix for this condition. One hears/feels a pop which confirms the condition existed, and also confirms the position is corrected. Nothing happens if the pubic symphysis is not involved and does not need correction and no harm occurs. Using this method you do not have to get any hands or equipment near the patients pubic symphysis. Some notable exceptions exist which can be addressed case by case.
Many pelvic and low back pain conditions can be reduced when ALL the pelvic joints are restored to their natural position. The pelvic area should be examined in three dimensions, rather than each joint looked at in only two dimensions.
